Margaret M. Hopkins, Ph.D.

Miggy is an experienced executive coach with expertise in leadership and career development, coaching for performance, and emotional intelligence.

Margaret M. (Miggy) Hopkins is an Assistant Professor of Management at the University of Toledo teaching courses in leadership and management at the graduate level. She is also an organizational development consultant with experience working in a variety of organizations in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. Her most recent consulting practice has included the areas of executive coaching, leadership development, and career development. She has coached individuals in the service and manufacturing industries, as well as in healthcare and education. She is accredited in the Emotional Competence Inventory and the Emotional Quotient Inventory.

She holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior and a Master of Science in Organizational Development from the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Boston College.

For the past twelve years, Miggy has worked with the Executive Education programs at the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University as an executive coach; and she has also been an adjunct faculty member. Prior to her academic career, she worked for the State of Ohio and the City of Cleveland in a number of managerial capacities. She served as Chair and Vice Chair of the Board of Education for the Cleveland Municipal School District from 1998-2005. She was the Deputy Director of the Governor’s Office for Northeast Ohio. She directed the City of Cleveland’s Civil Service Commission, and the Mayor’s initiative for the reorganization and redesign of city services. She has been the Education Editor for a college textbook publishing company and the Development Director for a working women’s advocacy organization.

She has published on the topics of leadership and leadership development, executive coaching, emotional intelligence, and women and success in the Journal of Management Development, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Managerial Psychology, Journal of Management Education and Group and Organization Management. Her areas of research interest include: leadership, coaching, emotional intelligence, and gender and leadership.
