Co-author of Helping People Change with Richard Boyatzis, PhD and Melvin Smith, PhD, Ellen Van Oosten, PhD is an Associate Professor in Organizational Behavior at the Weatherhead School of Management, Faculty Director for Weatherhead Executive Education and the director of the Coaching Research Lab, a scholar-practitioner collaboration to advance coaching research she founded with colleagues Richard Boyatzis, PhD, and Melvin Smith, PhD in 2014.
Melvin L. Smith, PhD, co-author of Helping People Change, is a Professor of Organizational Behavior and Faculty Director of Executive Education at Case Western Reserve University's Weatherhead School of Management. He also serves as Vice President of the Graduate School Alliance for Education in Coaching (GSAEC).

Seeing Opportunities as We Emerge from "Distancing"

James GilmoreProfessor James Gilmore, coauthor of The Experience Economy, shares his tool for improving one's observational skills, called Six Looking Glasses. Drawing from his most recent book, Look, Jim will describe six metaphorical lenses for more richly observing the world in which one is situated. Jim contends that all innovation begins with observation, noticing previously unimagined opportunities to be seen in any moment of here-and-now discontinuities and behavioral change.
In this 75 minute session, each of the Six Looking Glasses will be described and practiced in a series of brief exercises. The aim is to equip participants with a practical guide for seeing the potential to create new forms of value for customers in this fluid time of changing attitudes, expectations, and emerging needs.
