Francoise Adan, MD

Francoise Adan is an affiliate instructor and medical director of the Connor Integrative Medicine Network at University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. She holds a private practice in integrative psychiatry, treating patients with a combination of western medicine and complementary/alternative techniques.

In more than 25 years of practicing medicine, Adan has always practiced mind/body medicine, encouraging clients and patients to understand the connection between the mind, the body and the spirit. In her early years of medical practice she was quick to recognize the limitations of traditional medicine and to embrace the benefits of practicing with a more integrative approach, becoming a champion of holistic wellness. She specializes in three areas: stress management, work/life balance and the mind/body/spirit connection.

She was born in Italy and grew up in Belgium, always knowing that she wanted to be a physician. She studied family medicine in Belgium, earning a medical degree from the University Libre de Brussels, followed by three years working in the field of family medicine. She then immigrated to the United States in 1987, redirecting her intellectual energies to a focus in psychiatry. She completed a residency in Psychiatry at Cleveland Clinic from 1992–1996, was Board Certified in 1997, and became a U.S. citizen in 2008.

Affiliations with the American Holistic Medicine Association, the Anxiety Disorder Association of American, the Cleveland Psychiatry Association and the Cleveland Federation of Coaching provide additional examples of Adan’s expertise and experience. She is proud of her affiliation to Case Western University Medical School where she is Assistant Professor and a member of the Steering Committee for the Women Faculty of Medical School. In 2011, Francoise received the YWCA Woman of Excellence award.

Adan has witnessed and been impacted by the resilience of more than 3,500 patients and clients during her career, never ceasing to be amazed at the courage individuals possess to transform their own lives. She is a passionate, caring and compassionate “wellness champion,” encouraging her patients, students and colleagues to choose to love themselves and to allow themselves to be “open to joy.”

She is a dancer, downhill skier and gourmet cook. Her children are her treasure.
