Scholarships: Making a Difference Today and Tomorrow

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for your support of our school and my education at the Weatherhead School of Management. My name is Eric Wellman, and I am a 2013 MBA graduate. I am a recipient of the Hugh and Eleanor Luke Management Scholarship.

Prior to coming to Weatherhead I worked as a journalist. I graduated from Syracuse University in 2004 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and, for five years, hosted a morning radio show on Cleveland’s National Public Radio affiliate. I grew up in suburban Boston, but my wife and I have fallen in love with Cleveland and very much consider it our home.

I want you to know how deeply grateful I am for the scholarship that I received. It played a central role in my ability to pursue a degree in business and in my choice of Weatherhead. Without it, I would not have had the ability to leave my job and pursue this degree full-time.

When I started business school a year and a half ago, I had no idea what lay on the other side. I knew I wanted to take my career in a new direction, but I had few specifics in mind. This past summer I interned with Progressive Insurance, and I recently accepted a full-time offer to come onboard in a project manager role.

The past two years have been a transformational experience and, for the first time in years, I feel that my career has meaningful direction. I have accomplished things, both professionally and academically, that I never would have thought possible. I genuinely believe that my time at Weatherhead has changed my life. Likewise, your generous gift has changed my life, because without it, I would not be where I am today – an MBA graduate and about to start a really exciting new chapter.
