Strategic Innovation Lab's Grand Strategy Initiative

Help shape the future of the United States

Case Western Reserve University's Weatherhead School of Management is the new home of the Strategic Innovation Lab. The Strategic Innovation Lab's mission, which was born in the Pentagon and now advancing in the Midwest, is to deliver a 21st-century Grand Strategy to the next President of the United States that promises to usher in a new era of sustainable prosperity and security for our nation, our citizens and our children.

The last time America did Grand Strategy was in 1953 when Eisenhower was president and the tensions of the Cold War were high. More than six decades have passed and we are still operating under that old platform, yet virtually none of the conditions—domestic or foreign—that prevailed during Eisenhower's era persist today.

It's time to update America's operating system. The Strategic Innovation Lab's team has developed a new strategic approach, a "Grand Strategy" that envisions an opportunities-based, market-driven way forward for our nation. We can have thriving communities in our towns and cities; a sustainable, prosperous, and secure nation; and a viable multilateral approach to the world that, when taken all together, will not only strengthen and prepare the United States to meet the challenges for the 21st century, it will once again show that the Land of Opportunity can lead the world to a place of shared, enduring prosperity—not by what we say, but by what we do.

What does this mean for you?

Grand Strategy isn't an academic effort. The Strategic Innovation Lab's work was launched in 2009 by the then Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, and the initial draft of the new U.S. Grand Strategy was delivered to the White House after the 2012 elections. Now, the Strategic Innovation Lab is busy putting legs on the strategy by working with top-tier U.S. business leaders to develop a "Business Plan for America" —the economic component of the strategy—while simultaneously testing the strategy's concepts by actually implementing them on a regional scale from Detroit to Cleveland to Youngstown.

You can be a part of this opportunity to shape and direct the future of our nation by contributing to the efforts of the Strategic Innovation Lab. Your financial resources will help to develop and implement the Strategic Innovation Lab's pragmatic and non-partisan plan to power a new era of prosperity, security and sustainability.
