My research interest is on the impact of hyper-digital consumers on retailers and retailing. Nearly 50% of the U.S. population is described as always-on, always present, and always connected with the label always-on connected consumers (AOCCs) emerging as one of the most popular in practice. This consumer is a powerful and influential part of the U.S. economy that will continue to grow and impact retailing even more than it does today. Yet, despite the rhetoric and huge investments in digital commerce, digital marketing, and data analytics, retailers have been slow to change/evolve their customer marketing approaches and strategies directed at these consumers. I am currently interested in how AOCCs respond to relevant vs. irrelevant marketing communications and how they are challenging customer segmentation and profiling norms with their dynamic shopper/shopping behavior.
