Hak-Yoon has two primary areas of research interest: negative workplace events and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). She is interested in studying envy-eliciting situations and uncivil treatment and their effects on employee behaviors and performance. She is also interested in ways to help employees ameliorate and transform such negative workplace experiences and emotions in positive ways, particularly in cross-cultural contexts. Additionally, she is interested in motives for and types of organizational citizenship behaviors. Her research has implications for leaders in organizations as they influence the effective management of negative workplace events which can ultimately determine organizational outcomes.

She previously worked as a human resources consultant at Hay Group with a focus on leadership transformation and development. She received a BA in Psychology and Communication from University of Washington, Seattle and an MA in Organizational and Social Psychology from London School of Economics and Political Science.
