The MOOC and Motte-Culem: A world where we can share everything with everybody
Je suis Weatherhead...
As she sat in a class on Emotional Intelligence, Kirsten Nagel noticed a woman with smiling eyes seated near her. Kirsten introduced herself, and as soon as Marie Motte-Culem began to speak, Kirsten realized the charming woman had an interesting story to tell. Motte-Culem had been one of nearly 200,000 participants around the world who had signed up for the massive open online course (MOOC) titled Inspiring Leadership through Emotional Intelligence by Richard Boyatzis, PhD, Distinguished University Professor, H.R. Horvitz Professor of Family Business and professor of organizational behavior at Weatherhead School of Management. Motte-Culem discussed how she had looked all around in France for this kind of knowledge and approach, and how she ultimately found the approach that suited her was in Cleveland. She was so inspired by the MOOC’s topic of “resonant leadership” that she flew 12 hours to take additional courses to get her Emotionally Intelligent Leader certificate.
Nagel, director of digital technology solutions and services at Case Western Reserve University, immediately called the Mediavision video production team and Weatherhead marketing about Motte-Culem and ask if we’d like to interview the “charming” Culem. Check out the video interview which includes a surprise visit from Richard Boyatzis.
