Deputy under Secretary for Defense for finance management to speak at Bold Thinker Series - Feb. 28

The Weatherhead School of Management has invited Thomas Modly, the deputy under Secretary of Defense for financial management, to speak in the Bold Thinkers Series. Modly will discuss innovations in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Comptroller, during the free public talk at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, at the George S. Dively Building, located at Ford and Bellflower Roads on the Case campus.
In February 2005, Modly was appointed to his current position where he is the principal adviser to the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) and other senior-level defense department officials. He also provides the executive leadership to the newly formed Business Transformation Agency that is working across military and defense agencies to drive rapid transformation of business procedures and systems for effective support and improved financial accountability.
Prior to his current responsibilities, Modly served as executive director of the Defense Business Board from 2002 to 2005 where he coordinated activities that led to implementing best practices at the Department of Defense. 
Modly brings 11 years of active military experience to job, including service as a naval helicopter pilot. He earned his bachelor of science degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1983, a master of arts in government from Georgetown University in 1984, and a master of business administration with honors from Harvard Business School in 1992. 
The Bold Thinkers Series is designed to reflect the Weatherhead School’s legacy of innovation by bringing renowned speakers to address the management school’s students, faculty and alumni about innovations in business and finance.
