Alumnus Publishes A Children's Book

Posted 12.8.06

Preet Jesrani, a member of the class of 1998, wrote about Diwali in his children's book, "A Festival of Lights." Jesrani's inspiration came from his two children and his wife’s urging to revive his long dormant artistic abilities.  Jesrani wanted to tell a story surrounding his personal experiences as a parent.  The mother/son interactions represented in the book are reflective of those that Preet and his wife (Florence, a Weatherhead alumna, 1998) experience daily with their boys.

Jesrani said he toiled for months as he wrote the book and drew and painted all of the illustrations, yet that experience paled in comparison to what followed.  “Once you are a self-published author, that is when you face the real challenge of getting your work recognized,” he said.  Jesrani chose to self-publish his book to experience the process firsthand.  Now that he has weathered the storm, Jesrani is up for his next challenge – to be published through a renowned publisher.
