International Institutes Trips Announced!
Posted 10.16.06The Winter and Spring International Institutes trips have been announced. MBA students from Weatherhead will be traveling to China in the Winter and Budapest and Prague in the Spring. Alumni are welcome, provided there is room.
This year, one Action Learning team was assigned the task of determining demand, planning, and implementing the International Institutes classes. For anyone who does not know, International Institutes are MBA classes that incorporate experiential learning of international business through visits to the countries studied. Last year, the Winter Institute was held in South Africa and the Spring Institute was held in Strasbourg, France.
After surveying students and talking with a travel agent, it was determined that this year’s trips would be to China in the winter and Budapest and Prague in the spring. Professor Tom Vonk will lead the China trip, lasting from December 29th until January 13th. The theme of the trip is how companies enter, adapt to, and sustain business within China. The fee for the trip will be approximately $3800, with $400 due at sign up beginning on October 19th at 5:30pm.
Professor Scott Fine will lead the Prague / Budapest trip, which will take place from March 10th through March 18th. The theme of this trip will focus on how these countries have adapted to privatization after 20 years. The fee for the trip will be approximately $2500, with a $400 deposit due early next semester. The costs included in both prices cover group airfare to and from Cleveland, transportation between locations, double occupancy hotel accommodations, bus travel to and from cultural and company visits, some meals, and admission to cultural sites. Tuition is not included in the price for part-time students, and full-time students’ tuition remains the same as long as they are not exceeding the 20 credit hour limit per semester.
A newly added aspect of the Institutes is that they will be open to alumni, with first preference going to current Weatherhead students. By including alumni, the trips will strengthen the Weatherhead network, create an opportunity for continued learning, and facilitate relationships between current and past students.
