Posted 2.16.06The Moving Forward Fund Faculty Auction is in the works and promises to be better than ever before.
Five years ago, the graduating MBA class decided to give a class gift that keeps on giving today. Rather than donate a clock, sign or other token, the Weatherhead MBA Class of 2001 decided to create a scholarship, The Moving Forward Fund, which will allow the school to recruit outstanding students by offering more scholarship funds to these individuals.
Currently, two students, a first year MBA and a second year MBA, are receiving scholarships with the money raised by the Moving Forward Fund. As the fund grows, the committee hopes to be able to offer multiple scholarships every year.
Some of the funding for the scholarships is generated by an auction where members of the faculty and staff are auctioned off to participate in events such as the chance to cheer on the Tribe with Al DiFranco and Kevin Malecek from the Admissions Office. Be sure to mark March 31, 2006 in your calendar for this year’s event which promises to be even bigger than last year’s.
Professors who have agreed to participate this year include Fred Collopy, Simon Peck, Melvin Smith, Sam Thomas and Tom Vonk. As an additional bonus, Evan Morgan, MBA Class of 1994 and Chair of the Alumni Board, has agreed to donate his house on Kiawah Island, South Carolina for a week. This house, which sleeps 10, normally rents for $3,500 per week and will have an opening bid of $1750. Last year’s event raised almost $5,000 with professors Peck and Rosa commanding the highest bids.
