Student spotlight -- Whit Tice MBA class of 2009
Posted 7.30.07Interview with Whit Tice MBA and MPOD '09
In which program are you enrolled?
I am enrolled in both the full time MBA program and the MPOD program.
As the newly elected Graduate Business Student Association (GBSA) president, what do you hope to accomplish in your term?
There are many different areas in which I would like to help Weatherhead grow, but I know that I can be most effective if I look into a single area. When I was initially thinking about what areas I could best impact during a term as GBSA president, I felt that if I were to institute a narrowly focused program it would not be long lasting since the needs of Weatherhead are going to change in the coming years. As Weatherhead is making great strides toward building itself up, I want to help along that path. I would like to increase the collaboration and community of Weatherhead. With a close knit and collaborative atmosphere, a lot can be done more effectively. There are so many cool aspects of Weatherhead already. Having a stronger foundation to build on will help Weatherhead no matter what changes are implemented.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in the rainy Washington state. It's a really nice place and I recommend that everyone visit it -- in the summer (less rainy).
What brought you to the Weatherhead School?
The acceptance letter helped a lot. There was more to it than that, though. There were many points that drew me to WSOM. Chief among them were the faculty rankings, small class size, extracurricular opportunities available, and the feedback that I got from students (current and graduates).
Do you have any thoughts about what type of career you would like to pursue upon completion of your degree?
Oh yeah, I have a lot of thoughts on this. The short and simple version is that I would like to work with communication technologies. I believe that a software company would be a good fit for me.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
There are loads of things that I would like to do. What I did before coming to Weatherhead was mostly mixed martial arts and rock climbing. I always like going to see a movie, hanging out with friends and loved ones, and playing frisbee.
What is the last good book you have recently read or are currently reading?
I have a stack of books that I want to read eventually, although I devoured the last Harry Potter book. The most recent one that I've cracked into, but not finished, is The Innovator's Dilemma by Clayton M. Christensen.
