Hispanic Heritage Month: Meet Elia Casanova, full-time MBA student

National Hispanic Heritage Month takes place each year from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. In honor of the month, we are highlighting members of the Weatherhead School of Management community who are of Hispanic heritage to shed light on their experiences at the school and learn how they like to celebrate their heritage.

Elia Casanova is a full-time MBA student with a focus on marketing and entrepreneurship. She is also the vice president of marketing for Weatherhead's Graduate Business Student Association. Casanova's hometown is in Nicaragua, where she enjoys volcano sandboarding (pictured), which is an activity unique to Nicaragua. Learn more about Casanova and her heritage:

Why did you choose to attend Weatherhead for your MBA?
I created a business named Beauty Pop, where I resell high and mid-range makeup and skincare products. What called my attention to Weatherhead was to learn more about how to reach the customer to get more sales and how to organize a business properly.

What do you love most about CWRU?

I love so many things about my university. The commitment the university has to the success of the students, the qualified professors, and the extensive opportunities I am exposed to for growing professionally and personally.

Growing up in Nicaragua, what's a tradition you’d take part in?
In Nicaragua, each year a parade is held in every city with marching bands and dancers from the local schools on September 14 in recognition of the San Jacinto Battle.
