New master’s program responds to a booming market demand, will equip students with financial, analytical, and technological skills
Beginning in the fall of 2022, the Weatherhead School of Management will launch its Master of Science in FinTech (MS-FinTech) degree program. This degree program is the first and only of its kind in the state of Ohio.
As finance and technology industries continue to intersect, this new program will address the market need created by this high-growth area. Students will gain a strong grounding in finance with an emphasis on newer technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain, financial data analytics and programming.
“This program puts the Weatherhead School at the forefront of the fintech space,” said Gregory Jonas, senior associate dean of academics and graduate programs. “With the finance and technology industries converging, an increasing number of top organizations are causing the job demand for FinTech professionals to skyrocket. Students who complete this program will be equipped to enter this new era of finance.”
The program is 30 credit hours and can be completed in two semesters. Students have the option to extend the program to three or four semesters by enrolling in the Analytics for FinTech specialization track consisting of nine additional credits. Upon the successful completion of the track, students will receive a departmental certificate.
Students will gain real world insights to fintech from financial data analytics projects, experiential activities, executive seminars, lectures, city treks and executive roundtable discussions. Internship opportunities and job assistance for students will be available through a dedicated director and the school’s career development office.
Weatherhead has a pool of alumni who are currently in the FinTech space and will provide advisory and professional support to students.
“The Master of Science in FinTech program is a relatively unique educational offering,” said Paritosh Satia, MBA ‘04, Director, Financial Institutions Corporate & Investment Banking at Wells Fargo. “Students will develop a richer understanding of emerging trends and be better at synthesizing big data. These two key competitive advantages will serve them well as they embark on a career in the financial services and fintech industries.”
Applications for the MS-FinTech program are now open. Qualified applicants may qualify for merit scholarships.
