On January 10th, Dr. David Cooperrider and the Fowler Center were pleased to lead an Appreciative Inquiry session with the Leadership Cleveland Class of 2019 during their mid-year retreat.
Leadership Cleveland members hail from many different sectors, backgrounds, and perspectives, and share a common purpose to deepen their impact in our Northeast Ohio community. Appreciative Inquiry invites members of a community (a company, nonprofit, government agency, group of citizens, etc.) to see things differently. They focus on strengths, positive achievements and a vision of the future to address big challenges. Organizations such as the US Navy, Covia (formerly known as Fairmount Santrol), and Sustainable Cleveland have used the Appreciative Inquiry process to transform their work. The session focused on the members’ passion for Cleveland as a way to discover, dream, and design using the AI framework and tools. After the session, several members approached Dr. Cooperrider with questions about how they might utilize Appreciative Inquiry in their own organizations.
We are excited to see where these top leaders take things next. Thanks to our Weatherhead School of Management Dean, Dr. Manoj Malhotra, and the Cleveland Leadership Center for inviting us to play a role in this retreat!
