AIM2Flourish helped Medtronic, one of the largest medical equipment development companies in the world, train its employees to embed sustainable practices in their work.
Last month, Medtronic offices from Chile to Jordan to Switzerland to New Hampshire—and many other cities in between—hosted employee workshops to advance the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), or Global Goals. These workshops were supported by AIM2Flourish, an initiative of the Weatherhead School of Management’s Fowler Center for Business as an Agent of World Benefit. The SDGs are the world’s 17 biggest challenges to achieve by 2030, and include ending hunger, combating climate change and ensuring all children go to school.
Medtronic, one of the largest medical equipment development companies in the world, enlisted the help of AIM2Flourish and IMPACT2030, a private-sector organization dedicated to disseminating the SDGs through employee volunteer programs, to train its employees to incorporate more sustainable practices in their work. Together, IMPACT2030 and AIM2Flourish launched the “Introducing the Global Goals” toolkit at the United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit in New York City in September. Introducing the Global Goals is a growing set of resources to activate employee engagement and encourage collaboration to advance the SDGs.
The workshops focused on educating employees about the SDGs movement and inspiring a healthier, better world through volunteer efforts. In celebration of this initiative and in conjunction with International Volunteer Day on December 5, Medtronic’s own trained SDGs facilitators hosted 12 sessions with more than 170 employee attendees around the globe. These workshops are one of the results of a generous grant from Medtronic Foundation to AIM2Flourish in 2017.
“This is only the first step into helping Medtronic employees, patients, and communities take action into achieving the Global Goals,” said Leticia Babcock, program manager for volunteer engagement at Medtronic. “We are continuing to have Global Goals facilitators lead sessions around the world. Many are using this platform to inspire and engage and we will too as we go into the New Year. More to come but what an exciting start!”
