Corporate Responsibility & Community Reinvestment at KeyBank
After an enlightening first year at Weatherhead, Fowler Center Fellow Eliza Somsel put her classroom learnings to work at KeyBank as a Lean Six Sigma Graduate Intern. Eliza joined the Enterprise Lean Six Sigma team at a unique time as Key was acquiring First Niagara Financial Group and much of the team was acting as project managers for this integration. Eliza worked as a project manager for the Corporate Responsibility group's Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Analytics work stream. "Not only was this a great opportunity to gain experience managing a significant project," Eliza said, "but also I was exposed to the CRA Analytics team’s passion for working with the communities in Key’s growing footprint. This experience reassured me that any business can be an agent of world benefit."
In addition to working on the integration, Eliza worked on a project with Key Private Bank’s Investment Group using Lean Six Sigma methodologies to find improvement opportunities. She has continued to work on this project throughout the Fall semester and has gained many new relationships and technical skills along the way. "This internship was a great taste of what I hope to find throughout my career: frequent and endless opportunities for learning."
