Rajesh Tandon, PhD in Organizational Behavior '78, was awarded the Nehru Literacy Award by the Indian Adult Education Association. Instituted in 1968, the award commemorates Jawaharlal Nehru's distinguished services to the cause of reason of enlightenment.

The award is given to individuals and institutions in recognition of their outstanding work in the field of adult education/women's education. So far, 43 Nehru Literacy Awards have been given.

Tandon is the President and Founder of the Society for Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA), a voluntary organization providing support to grassroots intiatives in South Asia. Established in 1982, the organization's mission is to build capacities of citizens, communities and institutions, to enable vibrant, gender-equal societies.
