Chris Schron and Dean Robert Widing

Esteemed graduate and current president of the Weatherhead School of Management Alumni Advisory Council, Chris Schron, has been named the 2015 Weatherhead Outstanding Alumnus. Schron received his MBA in 2007 with concentrations in finance and strategy. Since his graduation, Schron has been an active participant in Weatherhead’s admissions efforts, career management activities for students, and numerous networking and alumni events. His many contributions to the Alumni Advisory Council over the past four years include establishing an Alumni Ambassador Program to involve more graduates in representing and supporting the school.

Personally and professionally, Schron embodies the spirit of Weatherhead, continually thinking and doing beyond the possible. When he accepted the award on October 9 in conjunction with a Homecoming Alumni Reception, Schron stated, “I like to think I am accepting this on behalf of a larger team, the AAC, which has made a major impact at Weatherhead.”

While championing this team, Schron led by creating bylaws for the council, thus creating validity and structure, making it a premier and coveted membership for our graduates. In part due to his efforts, the Alumni Ambassador Program had an unsurpassed number of applications this calendar year.

Schron was also a driving force behind the Finance Forward Fund in its inaugural years, which has had an impact on the department and its students.

When asked about Schron’s contributions, Deb Bibb, senior director of admissions, at Weatherhead said, “Chris has been a wonderful partner for us in admissions. He not only helps us to vet prospective students, but he goes the extra mile to answer their questions and serve as a resource. I value his opinion and appreciate all of his support and contribution to the profession of management.”

Schron recently joined Dealer Tire as the director of corporate strategy. Before joining Dealer Tire, he worked for six years at Cliffs Natural Resources in the business unit finance group supporting North American Coal before joining the Corporate Strategy team. At Cliffs, he developed a Cliffs Finance Intern program, which gave him the opportunity to advance internship placements for Weatherhead. Schron has also worked for Exxon Mobil in finance, as a clerk in the U.S. Senate, and as a Peace Corps member in Haiti. He was part of a group of former Peace Corps volunteers that started a nonprofit organization called Haiti Innovation dot org to raise awareness for development projects in Haiti.

Thank you to Schron for his unwavering commitment of time, talents and treasures to the Weatherhead community. We are so very proud to call him one of our own!
