A math major from Baldwin Wallace, Taylor Roll credits a supply chain class he took as an undergraduate as the spark that propelled his interest in operations. He entered Weatherhead in the fall of 2011 and landed a position the following summer as an intern for Akzo Nobel Decorative Coatings in Strongsville, Ohio. During the fall 2012 semester, the final semester of the program, Roll continued to work at Akzo, but now as a demand planner intern.
As a student enrolled in the MSM-OR/SC program, Taylor Roll was part of a culturally diverse class. “One of my more valuable experiences was spending time with people from different cultures,” he fondly recalls. “I felt that it was a great opportunity for me to learn about other cultures, which would prepare me to work at any global company.”
Roll and his global counterparts spent many late nights in PBL working on challenging case studies. These case studies and the valuable lessons each of his professors brought to the table were all meant to prepare students for the real world. “I didn’t have a favorite professor,” says Roll. “They all had their own unique experiences to share.”
In November 2012, with the program nearing its completion, Roll attended a career fair put on by the Weatherhead Career Management Office. There, he met a Weatherhead alumnus representing Rockwell Automation, a global provider of industrial automation and a Fortune 500 company. Through the esteemed education he received at Weatherhead, along with the valuable work experience he attained at Akzo, Roll found himself interviewing for two positions with Rockwell later that year. He was presented with the choice of a position in Milwaukee, Wisconsin or Twinsburg, Ohio, ultimately choosing the position in his home state of Ohio.
As predicted, Roll has called upon his experience working with international students at Weatherhead, as he now cooperates with Rockwell employees from the Dominican Republic, Singapore and Europe on production projects.
