Posted 1.30.13Students with a message of thanks
Armed with pizza, cookies and refreshments, Weatherhead School of Management students spread out on the fifth floor of the Peter B. Lewis Building to call alumni, friends and parents with a message of thanks. In the first Weatherhead Thank-a-thon, volunteers called more than 270 people who supported the Annual Fund, the MBA Scholarship Fund and the Braden Fund last year.
Were you one of our fortunate donors who spoke with second-year MBA student Laurajeanne Cerniglia? Or maybe you received a message from Charity Taylor, an international studies and management major concentrating on finance. These students and many more stepped up to help at the Thank-a-thon, which was started to show greater appreciation for the generous donations Weatherhead receives.
“Everyone I spoke with really appreciated the call,” said Laurajeanne. “I hope they know how important their support is and that we really appreciate it.” She was among the ten students who volunteered their time to make the calls and share the latest news about the school. Many of the students also shared personal stories of how they benefit directly from the support given to Weatherhead.
"The Thank-a-thon was a wonderful experience,” said second-year MBA student Dale Stewart. “Several of my favorite Weatherhead-ers came together to grab a bite to eat and say thanks to those who support the school. Hopefully, we were able to fully express our gratitude to the people that make this all possible." Dale said he had a great time helping out the school.
“I would definitely do it again,” added Michelle Karp, a second-year MBA student. “I would hope that everyone would want the chance to thank our alumni.” All the students shared this general sentiment at the end of the evening. It was rewarding for them to thank those who have contributed to the exceptional education they are receiving.
While the first Thank-a-thon reached only a small portion of Weatherhead donors, plans are underway for another event this spring. “Our students are so impressive,” said Shirley Reynolds, director of donor and alumni relations. “They volunteered their time and understood how important our donors are to their educational experience. They enjoyed speaking with our donors, especially our alumni, and we hope our donors enjoyed speaking with them.”
The next Thank-a-thon will aim to reach more people so everyone can hear firsthand from our students how important their support is to Weatherhead and how much it is appreciated.
Thanks to our student volunteers: Laurajeanne Cerniglia, Lauren Chandler, Michelle Karp, Jessica Lehmann, Swastik Mishra, Praful Nadella, Soumya Nair, Andrew Palmer, Dale Stewart and Charity Taylor.
