GARP Arrives on Campus
Posted 8.15.10Peter Ritchken, PhD, to serve as university chapter director
Weatherhead has become the latest addition to the Global Association of Risk Professionals' (GARP) University Chapter Program. As the only globally recognized membership association for risk managers, GARP sets the standard in advanced professional designation, career development through education, and the promotion of best practices globally.Weatherhead is one of only fourteen U.S. universities and colleges that are members of GARP's University Chapter Program.
Specifically, GARP's university chapter program gives students a forum through which they can learn, communicate their ideas, and network with their peers. Participation in university chapter meetings gives students the chance to better understand professional life and what to expect in the workplace, allowing them to be better equipped for the career opportunities that lie ahead for them in the risk management community. In addition, GARP's University Program team works with universities to develop risk management degree programs by incorporating the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) curriculum into the course of study.
Peter Ritchken, PhD, the Kenneth Walter Haber Professor of Finance and Director of the MS-Finance program, has been appointed University Chapter Director. "Our goal is to make students marketable in the areas of corporate finance and risk management, two important, growing fields," he said. "By establishing a GARP chapter, we will allow students to become more involved in risk management activities and prepare for the FRM Exam while they are completing their degree," commented Ritchken.
