MC: Human Elements: Richard Boyatzis - Emotional Intelligence

Master Class Series, MC10014, Speaker: Richard Boyatzis, Distinguished Professor of Organizational Behavior, Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western University, Cleveland Ohio USA, Discussion of the application of emotional intelligence to the process of innovation highlighting the core competencies for effective inventors and entrepreneurship. Boyatzis’ involvement in HR studies in the mid-1990s began as competency research in 1970, prompted by experiences when working as an aerospace engineer in the private sector in 1966. The lack of emotional connection to their work resulted in boredom for aerospace employees during the heyday of the US NASA space program, a fact he found shocking and which prompted his return to graduate studies to focus on development of a management style that included the concept of connecting emotionally. Involvement in hundreds of studies within government agencies, private companies and nonprofit organizations over the decades resulted in creating the competency movement in Human Resources. The Master Class Series is a collection of 100+ videos on a wide range of innovation and entrepreneurial topics from prominent authors, executives, researchers and contributors within the business sector and academia.
