Many organizations utilize the Balanced Scorecard methodology to build their metric reporting system, where scorecards are to be aligned with executive-determined strategies. However, when implementing the Balanced Scorecard system as a traditional methodology, they often discover that these efforts can become overwhelming and often do not lead to healthy organizational behaviors.
In these sessions we will present a nine-step business-system methodology for more effectively applying and utilizing Balanced Scorecard. One of the unique aspects of this methodology involves the creation of a long-lasting value chain so that natural-balanced, predictive measures are aligned to how work is undertaken throughout the organization relative to quality, cost, and time. With this system, the organizational chart is subordinate to the value chain; hence, reorganizations only affect metric ownership, not the metric system itself. Additionally, when there are changes in strategies or leadership, the long-lasting metric tracking system is only impacted relative to new goals that may be set for these metrics- instead of the traditional approach which can often mean a re-work of the Balanced Scorecard system.
We will show that by using Balanced Scorecard systems in a new way, it provides an opportunity to employ the system for predictive performance. When these predictive performance value-chain measures are utilized, you will gain additional insight that can impact the development of targeted strategies that benefit the entire organization.
Through a series of lectures, activities, virtual break-outs and readings attendees will learn how to create a scorecard and about strategic planning that leads to long-lasting healthy organizational behaviors that address the issues of the day.

No prerequisites are required but having taken Predicting Performance: Using Balanced Scorecard and Other Metrics would be beneficial. This seminar is designed for people with some experience or exposure to the Balanced Scorecard or other scorecard systems.
- Describing how the traditional Balanced Scorecard system can lead to unhealthy, counterproductive behaviors
- Showing why a natural scorecard balance system is better than a forced-balanced approach
- Illustrating why and where effective strategic planning intersects with the Balanced Scorecard system
- Identifying a system where long-lasting predictive scorecards are linked to analytically/innovatively determined strategies
- Providing a nine-step business management system that helps organizations move toward achievement of the 3 Rs of business; i.e., everyone doing the Right things, and doing them Right, at the Right time
After completing the four sessions, attendees will be able to:
- Create a long-lasting, natural-balanced scorecard system
- Understand how to report performance metrics so that they are predictive and there is a reduction in firefighting problems
- Describe how to create analytically/innovatively determined strategies to the benefit of business performance as a whole
- Illustrate how to analyze predictive metrics for determining improvement opportunities
- Use the book Integrated Enterprise Excellence Volume II to provide a reference that can be used long after the workshop for creating and communicating scorecards throughout the organization so that the most appropriate behaviors occur
