The Secrets of University Entrepreneurship lecture celebrates the appointment of Dr. Scott Shane as SBC Professor of Regional Economic Development. The lecture will examine successful new technology companies born from the technological inventions of faculty, staff and students from U.S. universities. Drawing from Shane’s book, “Academic Entrepreneurship: University Spinoffs and Wealth Creation” and his other studies, Shane will discuss the key factors for creating successful university spin-off companies: how to identify the right types of inventions, the best forms of intellectual property protection for these technologies, the right ways to raise money for these companies, and the appropriate ways to staff the venture.
