Advanced Orientation Meet Up

Join pilot Weatherhead group for cross cultural seminar

We are brining a wonderful advnaced orientation program to our international students at Weatherhead. This program has been enjoyed by many other professional school such as the Law School, Dental School and Nursing School and now it is available to Weatherhead Students!

On November 19th, we are having a preliminary meeting to talk about what topics might be of interest to our students. Please join us. Lunch by Potbelly's provided by Student Experience.

If you are an existing or new graduate or professional international student who would like to gain a deeper understanding of US culture and communication, this seminar is a good choice for you!

Program Description: Our six-week Spoken English/Culture Seminar will help you develop effective strategies for understanding and engaging in American and CWRU culture and for enhancing spoken English.  ESS staff, along with invited guests and Spoken English Language Partners (SELPers), will meet with you weekly.  Seminar enrollment will be kept small enough for ample time to practice spoken English during the seminar.

Program Objectives: When you complete the seminar, we hope that you will feel comfortable in your ability to:

  • understand how your culture and US culture intersect and influence each other as you communicate with professors and peers

  • respond to questions fluently and confidently in classes, presentations, group work, and with faculty and advisors

  • know and use ways to communicate effectively during formal and informal presentations

  • use spoken English in authentic situations in order to become a more confident speaker of informal and formal/academic English

  • understand the campus and the support services available to help you and how to best connect with these services
