Interdepartmental Seminar Series -Sirkka L Jarvenpaahttps://weatherhead.case.edu/events/2013/04/12/interdepartmental-seminar-series--sirkka-l-jarvenpaaTitle of Seminar: "Managing tensions of sharing and protection in interorganizational collaborations: a dynamic interactional perspective"
Abstract:We advance multilevel theorizing on managing the sharing-protecting paradox in inter-organizational collaborations (IOCs). Drawing from self-regulation theory, we analyze how interacting individuals from two different organizations with different interests and knowledge skillfully regulate what they share for effective problem solving without releasing sensitive information to the other individual. This analysis leads to propositions that explain when an individual is more likely to fail to protect during these interactions and suffer increased vulnerability from the release of sensitive information. We use the insights derived from this analysis to identify how managerial interventions can be used to help individuals avoid vulnerabilities, thereby helping organizations better manage their IOCs.
