John is a partner in Deloitte’s Professional Practice Network. He is currently the Director of Auditing Standards and leads Deloitte’s efforts to contribute to audit standard setting and interact with audit regulators in the US and abroad related to audit standard setting. John has been with Deloitte for 33 years starting in Houston in direct client service and in a variety of roles in the National Office including audit methodology and technology, director of auditing policy and methodology, director of industry professional practice, and chair of the global audit policy group.
Past Deputy Chair of the International Audit and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) – member of IAASB and IAASB Steering Committee from 2004 to 2009. Currently chair the IAASB Fair Value Auditing Issues Task Force. Played a significant role in the IAASB Clarity Project completed in December 2008. Task forces included group audits, written representations, objectives of an audit, sampling, quality control, the risk assessment standards, materiality, audit evidence, use of experts, standards impact assessments, status of practice statements. Past Chair of US Auditing Standards Board (ASB) – 2004-2006. Member 1995-1998 and from 2002 to 2004. Led adoption of risk assessment standards and the strategic direction to converge with ISAs.
Rice University - BA 1977, MACCO 1978. John and his wife, Nancy, live in Williamsburg Virginia. John and Nancy are both amateur historians and enjoy the historic sites in Virginia.
