Opportunities in Health Finance

I got to know my current boss at ConfiHealth when he was the guest speaker at a networking event here at Weatherhead. I followed up with him when he returned to San Francisco and six months later, when I contacted him again, he happened to be looking for an intern.

ConfiHealth is a pretty new company located in the Bay Area. It was set up by a panel of industry professionals two years ago and works to link healthcare companies in the U.S. and China. My director is responsible for investment advisory teams serving Ohio healthcare companies or institutions.

My job as an intern was to help small or medium-sized Ohio companies to develop their business in China, whether by finding Chinese partners for them or locating funds for them to grow in China. At first, it was really tough. I didn't have much experience in investing or mergers and acquisitions, or much knowledge of the healthcare sector. But I found that the technical knowledge and soft skills I developed at Weatherhead, such as networking and leadership skills, helped me communicate with my clients (healthcare companies and institutions) and their partners (especially investment banks and law firms).

I currently work full-time for ConfiHealth as a project manager for international transactions, and may continue to work for the company after graduation. It's a great way to gain industry knowledge and experience. I like working in Cleveland, and since I am the only employee based in Ohio, I meet and get to know a lot of people locally. Moreover, the healthcare industry is really mature in this area, which is aligned with our company goals and my current career path.

The one thing that I lack is a mentor or coach to help me find my fit in this industry and develop my career with ConfiHealth. That's what I am still looking for.
