Welcome from the Director

Dear friends and colleagues,

The Doctor of Management (DM) Program was from the start about building a new kind of practitioner-scholar community where learning, knowledge dissemination, debate and open inquiry would form the bloodline of the DM community. The creation of the DM Digest is an additional step in advancing this goal.

Other initiatives include the creation of a new kind of academic and practitioner journal, called the Engaged Management ReView (EMR), for the dissemination of research findings specifically for the management-practitioner community.  We have also created an Engaged Practitioner Scholar (EPS) community around the DM Programs and currently have seven research fellows who publish and engage in research as part of this growing community. Additionally, we have sharpened and extended our presence on social media, Academy of Management (AoM) Annual Meeting and ARNOVA meetings and conduct regular practitioner scholar lectures as part of the DM curriculum.

We hope that the creation of the DM Digest newsletter truly advances a sense of DM community and strengthens its unique character.  You will see from this creative space what is happening in the DM Programs and EPS community.

You can share your recent research findings, professional achievements, family happenings and debate the goals and strategy of our community, or whatever concerns you. Tips for career advancement, succeeding in practical settings, integrating your insights into how to carry out new types of consulting and research tasks are all welcome. We will introduce short stories about alumni and students in this space so that we learn more about one another and can connect better.

These activities show that we care about one another, seek to build stronger bonds, and are committed to the fate of the practitioner-scholar community.

Sincere regards,

Kalle Lyytinen

I am pleased to give you an update on the Engaged Practitioner Scholar (EPS) Fellowship program.  This program began nearly two years ago as an effort to engage DM Program alumni in the creation of ongoing management research.  Fellows enrolled in the program are encouraged to continue research that they were involved with during their time in the DM Programs or pitch new ideas for their next set of inquiries into “wicked” management problems.  The DM Programs and the Weatherhead School of Management are eager to continue to engage our alumni in relevant and rigorous research that matters for the practice of management.
