STUDENT ENTREPRENEURS CLAIM TOP SPOTS at sxsw STARTUP COMPETITION

Two Case Western Reserve student entrepreneurial teams were top three finishers in this year’s South by Southwest's “Student Startup Madness” competition held in Austin, Texas. Eight teams of students —“The Entrepreneurial Eight”— were whittled down from an initial 200 applications from universities across the country, and invited to pitch their startup ventures to world-class judges at the conference. CWRU was the only university with two finalists, and both teams were led by undergraduate students from the entrepreneurial class taught by Scott Shane, PhD.

richard boyatzis to receive lifetime achievement award for contributions to HR
 
For his decades of significant contributions to the human resources sector, Richard Boyatzis, PhD, a Case Western Reserve Distinguished University Professor in organizational behavior, psychology and cognitive science and the H.R. Horvitz Professor of Family Business at Weatherhead, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual Archer Awards in Cleveland this August. Boyatzis is the first nonpractitioner to receive this award. Read More

full-time mba student liz smith creates dating app, "fetch"
 
Liz Smith, a student in the full-time MBA program, has created Fetch, a dating app that would allow singles in Cleveland who own dogs to connect online. Smith came up with this idea after she and her friends tried several online dating services without much luck, and in the interest of connecting people who have something meaningful in common. Smith is currently in talks with developers and hopes to launch by summer.
