Valbona Bushi, BS ’08 and MAcc ’09
Current residence: New York City, NY
Before joining the Assurance practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the New York City office, Valbona received her Masters of Accounting in 2009 from the Weatherhead School of Management, and a BS in Accounting in 2008. At PwC, she is a research analyst and senior associate, and practices in the Investment Management area dealing with clients ranging from larger investment companies and banks to smaller hedge funds, while providing guidance on the latest auditing standards. At PwC, Valbona is part of the Innovation Council in the New York area and an advisory Board Member at APEN, as well as involved with several service and social groups. She also initiated a beginning on-site class to quickly bring up to speed new interns and associates to the practice.
At CWRU, Valbona was highly involved in residence life and Greek life, joining the chapter of Alpha Chi Omega, and has continued that involvement as an alumna. As the President for the Panhellenic Council she initiated the review of the student activities fees and the effectiveness of its use by student organizations. She was the winner of the Theodore Alfred Distinguished Service Award for her work with Relay 4 Life at Case. In addition, she has maintained this level of involvement by organizing a team through Kiva.org, which has grown significantly over the past two years and has held two successful fundraisers, bringing in around $6,000 to support borrowers through micro financing institutions, in addition to monthly outreach to spread awareness about Kiva.org. Professionally, she is a member of the New York Society of CPAs and the AICPA.
Recently, Valbona decided to pursue another dream of hers and continue building her skills as an athlete. She raised $3,900 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society while training through "Team in Training" for her first Olympic distance triathlon in Washington, DC. In the near future, she wants to complete a century bike ride and participate in the NYC Marathon in 2011.
Valbona has supported the Weatherhead School of Management consistently since graduation, and immediately became a member of the Alumni Advisory Council upon graduation in 2009. She has participated in the life of Weatherhead by reaching out to students, planning and attending special events, and is always reaching out to welcome alumni to NYC and engage them in becoming involved after graduation. She was just inducted as a member of the Case Western Reserve University Alumni Association Board.
Valbona exemplifies all of the criteria for the Outstanding Alumnus Award. Through her involvement, she provides a motivational example to other alumni, especially recent graduates, to be involved in the life of the Weatherhead School of Management. We are grateful to have her contributions as a graduate of the Weatherhead School of Management and as the 2011 Outstanding Alumna.
