2011 Distinguished Alumnus

Jim Hilyard, MBA ’70

Jim Hilyard possesses an extensive career in management in the consumer goods and construction industries and also in international business development. He is currently a business consultant of Asphalt Roofing Manufacturing Association where he was the Chairman from 2004 - 2006, and the Owner of International Business Consultants. He was also the Senior Advisor at Saint-Gobain from 2002 - 2006, focused on international business development for the Building Materials Group worldwide. He has also served as a consultant to major companies on the integration of merged organizations.

Jim was President, Roofing Products Group, of CertainTeed Corporation from 1990 - 2002, after having started his career with Sherwin-Williams Paints in the early 1970s. Before his retirement at CertainTeed, Jim was a member of five international environmental and health committees while serving as president of several other companies. In addition to earning his MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management, Jim received his BS in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He also studied in the Executive Program (Finance) at Columbia Business School at Columbia University and in the Executive Program (Manufacturing) at The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.

Jim has served as a member of the Weatherhead School of Management's Alumni Advisory Council since its inception in 2009 and a member of its fundraising committee. He has supported the Weatherhead School of Management in numerous ways including serving as an event chair and helping to recruit top students. He encourages alumni to actively engage with Weatherhead by helping with admissions, contributing to Weatherhead's annual fund, and assisting students with career development objectives.

Jim has traveled as a crew member on 4 tall ships sailing in the North Atlantic, the North Sea and the Great Lakes when he received his US Merchant Marine Masters License. Jim and his wife Bobbie have two children, Todd and Sharon, and have thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Alumni Travel program with CWRU.

We are grateful to have Jim as an active alumnus of the Weatherhead School of Management and Case Western Reserve University, and as the 2011 Distinguished Alumnus.
