MGMT 315: International Management Institute (3 Credit Hours)
Background:
Course provides undergraduate students with unique overseas visitation, language orientation and management subject experiences during such periods as spring break or during interims immediately following the end of a semester's courses.
The expanding global economy and related technologies make such Institutes highly desirable as instructional platforms from which to combine traditional reading and learning approaches with first hand experiences related to the area of management study.
Administrative Details:
This year's Institute offering will be from May 10, 2008 to May 25, 2008, inclusive, in conjunction with our partner University of Frankfurt.
Students will register for the course as part of the spring 2008 courseload.
Prerequisites/Corerequisites: Economics 102 and 103, ACCT 101, BAFI 355
Course Details:
The European Union in the Process of Economic and Political Globalization
(The course involves participation in all three phases.)
Phase I - Students will be required to attend 2 sessions prior to departure to Frankfurt.
Session 1: Language & Culture – TBA
Session 2: EU Financial Markets Background – TBA
Phase II - The Frankfurt portion of the program will be conducted in English.
Part I – European Integration – May 12th to May 16th
History Of The EU, Theories Of Integration, EU’s Institutional Structure, Economics Of Integration, European Common Market
Part II – European Central Banking – May 19th to May 23rd
History of EU Monetary Union, Structure of the Euro-Area, Monetary Theory, Monetary Policy of the ECB
Extracurricular
German Language Courses
Visits to the Stock Exchange, European Central Bank, etc.
Rhine Valley Boat Ride
Phase III – Students are required to submit a final assignment after their return.
Additional Administrative Details:
Housing:
Double-occupancy housing will be arranged at the IB Hotel (Hotel Friedberger Warte), price includes a daily buffet breakfast.
Airfare:
Roundtrip air transportation on US Air in economy class, including U.S. and foreign departure, customs and security taxes as printed on the ticket.
Transportation:
Students will purchase a two-week U-Bahn pass for transportation while in Frankfurt.
Travel Documents:
Students are required to have a valid passport good through December 31, 2008. If you need assistance with this or are a foreign national requiring visa processing please contact Tiffany Welch for more information.
Requirements:
As required by the university, students must provide Emergency Contact Information and a signed Parental/Guardian Consent Form. Other university requirements regarding minimum GPA may apply. Students must be 18 years of age at the time of travel.
Registration & Fees:
Travel costs will be covered by students as part of their registration arrangement. The school retains the option to cancel the institute due to insufficient enrollment. Special permit is required to enroll in the course and can be obtained from Tiffany Welch.
Other:
A Weatherhead faculty or staff member will accompany the students to Germany. This individual will also help coordinate student activities with the faculty at the University of Frankfurt.
