Cliffs Supports Student Club’s New Initiative

Thanks to a generous grant from The Cliffs Foundation, the Finance and Investment Club at Weatherhead hosted a session with Training The Street (TTS). The two-day Financial Modeling workshop is designed to develop financial modeling skills through actual hands-on construction of a financial model. Each participant builds their own interactive financial model from “scratch” to practice blending accounting, finance and Excel skills.

Cliffs Natural Resources, an international mining and natural resources company headquartered in Cleveland, was introduced to this new initiative by Weatherhead’s Career Management Office. The two have long-partnered on meeting the company’s employee and internships needs with recruitment strategies and Weatherhead students. With the support from the Cliffs Foundation, 42 Weatherhead students were able to participate in the TTS weekend session at a significantly reduced rate.

“The student feedback from the workshop showed they found it very valuable for their career preparation, and that they were interested in other courses offered by Training The Street,” said Abhishek Gupta, president of the Finance and Investment Club. Participants were offered state-of-the-art, instructor-led courses and allowed to broaden their awareness and assistance with career alternatives.

“We are very grateful that Cliffs supported this new initiative for our students,” shared Meenakshi Sharma, Assistant Dean of Career & Student Affairs. “Training The Street workshops complement the student Weatherhead experience and assist them with professional aspirations.” The grant from Cliffs helped provide essential training that should be a part of a student’s portfolio.
