Through our on-line system, the Weatherhead CareerLink, employers are able to quickly sort through student resumes and identify which students would be good candidates to interview. Weatherhead CareerLink enables students to search for companies and job postings that appeal to them. This in effect creates a larger applicant pool for a company since more students will be researching their organizations. Our current employers find connecting with our student leaders an effective tool to increase their visibility with the student body beyond the traditional interview process. Through their involvement with student organizations, employers are able to observe student leaders who demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, creativity and the ability to lead. Opportunities to connect include club panel discussions and event sponsorships. Mentor Program The opportunity to mentor students can prove to be an excellent way to evaluate the caliber of students, identify potential intern and career candidates, and offer your employees an opportunity to test their advisory and feedback skills. We match MBA and other graduate business candidates with executives and managers who help to focus the student’s academic and career interests. This allows you to build a bridge to the Weatherhead Community and influence the learning experience of those students who may join your organization. Corporate Partnerships Weatherhead offers a unique perspective to employers by facilitating access to case competitions, executive forums, panels and classes. We know that employers want the opportunity to meet students in “their element", not solely in an interview atmosphere. As a result, Weatherhead promotes several events where students and employers can talk with one another on an informal basis. A company benefits from these sessions because they have more time in the interview to learn about the candidate. These sessions can be open to both first and second year students, or can be marketed as a closed session specific to career or intern candidates. The format of the session typically consists of a 30-45 minute company presentation, followed by a Q&A period and a reception. If you are interested in hosting an Information Session here at the Weatherhead School of Management, please contact Lamont Davis at (216) 368-1820. Experiencing is BelievingMany employers find that early exposure and assessment of a candidate’s ability are important components of the selection process. We offer cost effective ways to introduce you to talented candidates. These include full-time and part-time internships, Case Competitions and Action Learning. Full and Part-Time Internships Our students have an average of 4 years of professional experience. As a result, they are able to make an impact on a project in a relatively short period of time. Weatherhead students are poised to work in your environment and will bring new ideas and solutions to your business challenges. Students are available for internships on a full-time basis in the summer and part-time (up to 20 hours) during the school year. Case Competitions Case competitions invite first year MBA candidates to compete as teams and gain feedback from experienced alumni currently pursuing careers in Marketing, Finance and Consulting. Case competitions offer companies the opportunity to increase their presence on campus. Furthermore, these events serve to enhance the breadth of at Weatherhead student’s educational experience. Student teams are presented with a real business challenge and are asked to develop recommendations and subsequent implementation strategies. Similar to an assessment activity, companies can observe and evaluate the students’ teambuilding, presentation style and analytical skills. Action Learning Action Learning is a 6 credit course taken in the third semester of a full-time MBA student’s curriculum. The course is designed to encourage the cross functional integration of the analytical tools, knowledge, and perspective gained during the first year in the core curriculum. Student teams are assigned to action learning projects in the corporate, healthcare, and nonprofit sectors. Applying the team management and appreciative inquiry approach learned during the Managerial Assessment and development course, teams of four to five students, supported by a multi-disciplinary team of faculty “coaches”, are expected to devote 15-20 hours per week throughout the semester to their action learning project.
