Supporting Your Success for a Career in the US

Weatherhead is proud of our diverse student population and we make a special effort to recruit students from all parts of the world. Students who are not citizens or permanent residents of the US may face challenges if they wish to work in the US after graduation.

Employers may not have accurate information concerning employment of international students. You should become well informed about visas and other employment issues and be prepared to coach potential employers on what is actually involved.

To conduct a successful career search, you must begin building an international career network very early in your academic program. Networking involves building a web of contacts and associates who might be in a position to help you in your career development. Your network may include friends, student groups, alumni, former colleagues, social organizations, faculty, family members, etc.

Career Development at Weatherhead are designed to support you.  It is very important to take advantage of all the resources offered. These include:

  • Career information sessions and workshops designed especially for international
    students

  • The Weatherhead CareerLink system to help locate job opportunities

  • The on-line Alumni Directory to find sources for informational interviews and
    networking

  • Career resource library, as well as online career information on our website

  • Mock interview program, which allows you to practice interviewing skills

  • Mentoring program, which pairs you with a corporate executive

  • Student organizations that give you a chance to show leadership and teamwork
    skills

  • Social events that allow you to network and meet others with your interests
