Instructors - Diana Bilimoria, Ph.D.

Diana Bilimoria, Ph.D. is a Professor of Organizational Behavior in the Department of Organizational Behavior, at the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University. She received her Ph.D. in Business Administration from The University of Michigan.

Dr. Bilimoria's research focuses on leadership, governance, gender, and diversity in organizations. Her work helps individuals and organizations enhance their leadership contributions and impact to create positive benefits. She is interested in studying issues surrounding the representation, careers, quality of life and success of individuals in organizations, especially women and underrepresented minorities, particularly their advancement to and participation in senior organizational ranks such as in top executive teams and on boards of directors. Her work on gender diversity, emotional intelligence, and leadership development has applications for individual, group, and organizational change. Her research has been used to facilitate the institutional transformation of research universities to become more inclusive of the success and contributions of women faculty. Other applications include the improvement of corporate and nonprofit organizational practices of selection, performance evaluation, advancement, and leadership development to attract and retain a diverse workforce.

Dr. Bilimoria is the co-author of the 2007 edited volume, The Handbook on Women in Business and Management, and the upcoming Women on Corporate Boards of Directors. She has published articles and book chapters in journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Career Development International, Corporate Governance: An International Review, Equal Opportunities International; Human Relations, Human Resource Management, Group and Organization Management, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Management Education, Journal of Managerial Issues, Journal of Technology Transfer and Women in Management Review, and in edited volumes such as Women and Minorities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics: Opening the Pipeline, Advancing Women in Science and Engineering: Lessons for Institutional Transformation, Women in Management: Current Research Issues, Leadership: Succeeding in the Private, Public, and Not-for-Profit Sectors, Women on Corporate Boards of Directors, and Advances in Strategic Management.

Dr. Bilimoria served as the Editor of the Journal of Management Education during 1997-2000, and as a Co-Principal Investigator on a 5-year, $3.5 million ADVANCE award from the National Science Foundation to advance women faculty in the sciences and engineering during 2003-2008.

Her teaching focuses on executive leadership, emotional intelligence, women in organizations, competency assessment and development, and organizational systems. She has served as an organizational consultant and management educator for private, public, and nonprofit organizations, and as an executive coach for individuals, focusing on the areas of leadership development, emotional intelligence, board effectiveness, gender and diversity in organizations, and organization development. Organizations she has worked with include Alcoa, American Red Cross, Arthur Andersen, LLP, Diebold, Edgepark Surgical Instruments, Eaton, GenCorp, Lubrizol, National City Corporation, Roadway, Rockwell Automation, Sparrow Health Care System, Swagelok, University Hospitals of Cleveland, Veterans Administration Medical Center, Women's Community Foundation, and World Vision International.

Dr. Bilimoria was recently named to the KeyBank Professorship, a new Endowed Chair for the Weatherhead School of Manangement, which represents a major investment by KeyBank. She received the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women's Spotlight Series Prize for Women's Scholarship, at Case Western Reserve University in 2007, and the Weatherhead School of Management's Doctoral Teaching Excellence Award in 2002. She has been internationally recognized for her scholarship, leadership and service, including the 1999 Anbar Golden Page Award for her editorship of the Journal of Management Education and Academy of Management Conference awards in 2006 (Careers Division), 1999 (Organizational Behavior Division) and 1997 (Organization and Management Theory Division).
