Culture of Youth Work

The workshop covers the impact of culture (staff and participants) in creating community in youth programming. Topics include cultural identification broadly defined (age, ethnicity, cultural background, gender) and strategies to create a positive and respectful youth focused environment.

Intended Audience: youth serving professionals, particularly those who work directly with youth

Participants will:

  • Identify impact of culture, values and diversity on work with youth
  • Use of effective communication tools to foster understanding
  • Demonstrate understanding of community building with youth
  • Integrate learned concepts into current youth programming
