The explosive growth in computer power
and flexibility creates growing demand for operations
research specialists who can use and develop the
latest techniques in data analysis and decision making.
The MSM-OR degree program trains students
in the techniques and applications of operations research,
using mathematics, statistics and computer modeling
to assist managers in making decisions about complex
organizational problems. The degree provides them with
some basic understanding of business fundamentals in
order to contribute value to organizations and communicate
effectively with professionals in other business disciplines.
The program is available full time and part time and
requirements are typically completed in 12 months of fulltime study.
The MSM-OR curriculum is comprised of three components: the Business
Core, the Operations Research
Core, and a Specialty
Track.
Graduates of this program generally start
their careers as analysts,
often in consulting, manufacturing and transportation
industries, and increasingly in telecommunications and
service firms. They are also placed in corporate offices
dealing with risk management, strategic planning and
operational problems that require modeling, analysis,
and the intelligent handling of large amounts of data.
Because MSM-OR graduates are well-trained
quantitatively and can communicate effectively with
other professionals working in their functional area,
they can have an immediate impact in a firm. Many graduates
make their careers within a functional area while others
move into managerial positions.
The Operations Department offers the following
masters degrees:
MSM-OR (Master of Science in Management
in Operation Research)
MSM-SC (Master of Science in Management
in Supply Chain)
Joint degrees
in MBA/MSM-OR and MBA/MSM-SC
Those wishing to apply to these programs
can obtain further information in the section on Application
