Dean's Monthly Message
I hope that you are having the beginning of a pleasant fall. I’m pleased to report on the following recent activities.
The Executive Doctor of Management (EDM) Program launched its academic year with 31 students -- the largest class ever and a 50% increase over last year. The program also hosted 52 of 86 total alumni for a 10-year celebration of the start of the program – remarkable when considering Hurricane Katrina prevented 3 people from attending and many EDM alumni have heavy travel schedules or reside overseas. Graduates and current students came from as far away as Hawaii, California, and Washington, as well as many places on the east coast.
I am also pleased to report the success of a relatively new program. The Masters of Science in Organization Development & Analysis (MSODA), which began in 1975, has been given a “face-lift” to more closely match what is relevant in the field today. Now called the Masters of Science in Positive Organization Development & Change (MPOD), it is offered annually while the MSODA program was offered bi-annually. The program has been enormously successful with 38 participants in the class of 2006 and 31 in the class of 2007. It is taught in a residency-distance-learning format and speaks well of our efforts to remain current and on the cutting-edge.
Through the Center for Business as Agent of World Benefit (B·A·W·B), Weatherhead is one of 11 schools - only four of which are in the U.S. – to be selected by the Aspen Institute’s Business and Society Program as part of its Teaching Innovation Project (TIP). As part of its goals to integrate business and society issues into Weatherhead’s MBA core curriculum as well as the entire MBA and management education experience, B·A·W·B began a pilot project in fall of 2004 with the Saturday MBA program to incorporate issues of social impact into the core curriculum.
A reorganized and redesigned MBA website launched this month. The site mirrors the new MBA Experience brochure that we are now starting to distribute. Click here to view the new site.
Admissions Staff are traveling across the U.S. to graduate-degree conferences and events to promote our MBA and MSM programs. Not only do they bring their energy to these events, they also take along new display materials to enhance our presence at these important recruiting activities.
In our continued effort to expand our target market, we have negotiated a new partnership with the Cleveland Browns Radio Network. If you listen to away games this season, you should hear one of our ads promoting our Executive Education or MBA Programs.
