Posted 09/29/2005

The lecture, Secrets of University Entrepreneurship, examined successful new technology companies born from the technological inventions of faculty, staff and students from U.S. universities. Drawing from Shane’s book, “Academic Entrepreneurship: University Spinoffs and Wealth Creation” and his other studies, Shane discussed the key factors for creating successful university spin-off companies: how to identify the right types of inventions, the best forms of intellectual property protection for these technologies, the right ways to raise money for these companies, and the appropriate ways to staff the venture.
