Dear Weatherhead MBA Alumni,

I hope this note finds you well. Like you, I received my MBA from Weatherhead in the early '90s. After 15 years in the for-profit and non-profit sectors, I have returned to Weatherhead as associate dean for Executive Education. One of the great pleasures of the job has been reconnecting with classmates and other alumni. These conversations have led us to develop an idea that we're calling the MBA Booster Shot. We've chosen to pitch this concept to you and a select group of MBA alums to gauge your interest.

Here's the gist of it: since you graduated, a lot has changed in the business world. Sarbanes-Oxley has had an enormous impact on the world of accounting; the internet has become a dominant vehicle for marketing and sales; there are a host of new financial instruments, both in the corporate finance world, and in banking; and, of course, the face of supply chain management has been permanently altered by the emergence of the global economy. While your Weatherhead MBA gave you a solid grounding in the disciplines required of a superior manager, we'd love to help you with a customized refresher course.

Our concept is to invite you to come back to Weatherhead for a week to give your MBA a 2008 "shot-in-the-arm". You can reunite with your classmates and favorite professors for a week of learning that I'm confident will have an immediate impact on your job performance. Julia Grant will update you on the latest developments in the world of accounting. Richard Boyatzis will engage you in his new work around leadership. Sam Thomas will deepen your understanding of the increasingly complex aspects of finance. If we can steal Mohan away from his dean duties, we'll talk him into teaching a marketing class. And, I hope, you will also learn from your classmates, each of whom will have their own perspective from 10-15 years of work experience.

We'll also throw a little fun into the mix. For those of you who haven't seen it, we'll offer tours of the Frank Gehry-designed Peter B Lewis Building which has become one of Cleveland's iconic architectural masterpieces. There'll be planned activities in the evening that will give you a chance to get caught up with the folks you got to know so well as a student. We'll set aside rooms at the Glidden House for those of you coming from out of town, so you'll have a two-minute walk to the Dively building for classes each day.

As we determine the viability of this idea, we'd appreciate your feedback. Is this idea of interest? If so, what subject matter would you like to see covered? Would the organization you work for be willing to financially support this development opportunity? (Not including accommodations, the estimated cost for this week is $5,000 per person).

Please complete the short survey to share your thoughts and ideas. It should take only two minutes to complete: weatherhead.case.edu/mbaboostershot You can also e-mail Mindy Kannard at mindy.kannard@case.edu or call her at 216.368.6405 with your reaction.
