The Net Impact Green Challenge, sponsored by Seventh Generation and Office Depot, recognizes business school chapters of Net Impact (the largest MBA student club in the nation) for creating positive environmental impact at their institution through the Campus Greening Initiative programs.The competition among Net Impact chapters evaluated participants' actions and impacts based on the measurable difference of environmental impact, their strategic plan, the creativity of the approach and the stakeholder engagement process, over a six month timeframe (January 1 through June 1). How did the Weatherhead School pull ahead of other B-schools to win second place?

Step 1: partnered with the all-star Facilities Services team to reduce energy consumption in the Peter B. Lewis and Dively Buidings by six percent in just six months
Step 2: created a video
Step 3: wrote an impressive case study
Step 4: invited a growing network of ambassadors and champions to support the small moves that create huge impact, such as:

  • enabling the double sided printing function to cut down on paper use and waste
  • recycling the many materials we divert from the university's waste stream
  • turning off and unplugging what you’re not using
  • taking advantage of our beautiful campus and walking to meetings, saving $0.15 in gas and keeping one pound of climate changing CO2 from being spewed into our atmosphere
