EMBA graduate Jeff Ponsky takes on new role at CWRU
Executive MBA graduate Jeffrey L. Ponsky, MD, 1990 has taken on the new role of Associate Dean of Alumni Affairs for the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. An accomplished alumnus, surgeon and teacher, Dr. Ponsky will serve to broaden and strengthen relationships with fellow alumni by developing opportunities for them to engage with the School of Medicine as advocates, partners and philanthropic supporters.
Dr. Ponsky is both well connected in Cleveland and well respected across his field nationally. He serves as the Oliver H. Payne Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine and Surgeon-in-Chief at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. Prior, he held leadership roles at Cleveland Clinic and Mt. Sinai Medical Center.
In addition to Executive MBA degree, Dr. Ponsky earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve in 1971. He received the School of Medicine’s Kaiser Teaching Excellence Award in 1993. His many additional honors include the Distinguished Service Award from the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, the Maurice Saltzman Award from the Mt. Sinai Health Care Foundation, the Rudolf Schindler Award from the ASGE, and the George Berci Lifetime Achievement Award from SAGES. He has been listed in The Best Doctors in America® every year since its inception. In 2011, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine.
Dr. Ponsky’s prolific career has resulted in the publication of more than 200 original articles and book chapters. He has authored or edited five textbooks and serves on the editorial board of several journals. One of his most significant innovations is the percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, which provides a minimally invasive substitute for the operative placement of feeding tubes.
