Information Technology and Your Personal Computer

Check out the link above to find out how to activate your network accounts at Weatherhead along with lots of other information that you will find useful about using technology as a Weatherhead Student!

Weatherhead's Computing Environment

Personal laptop use is an integral part of the student experience at Weatherhead. You will use your laptop for assignments, presentations,  electronic mail, and research. The faculty expect students to have computer skills and require computer usage to complete assignments.

As a Weatherhead student it is helpful to have a laptop computer. It is an required tool for participation in, and completion of, your graduate program.  Wired and wireless network access is available in all classrooms and in nearly all other areas of the Peter B. Lewis Building. University Circle as a whole is a wireless environment.

You are required to ensure that your laptop meets the minimum hardware and software specifications. Whether you purchase software or take advantage of the free software that is available to registered students via the Case Software Center site, you will be responsible for installing all necessary software before classes begin.

You should purchase or own a laptop computer that meets or exceeds the suggested laptop specifications of minimum requirement.
*Please note that some required CASE software will NOT run on PCs running the 64-bit version of the Vista operating system. If your machine is running 64-bit Vista, you should consider installing 32-bit Vista instead.*

In addition, all students are responsible for installing necessary software and configuration settings.  You will have time to configure your laptop either before orientation or during the technology session at orientation.

The Computer Lab

ITG operates a 48-workstation computer lab in the Peter B. Lewis Building. Because of the small number of workstations available when the training lab is in use, it is important to rely on your laptop computer for most of your needs. ITG Lab Consultants are on duty whenever the computer lab is open, and can assist you with the use of lab resources.

Printing

Black/white laser printing is available for you in the computer lab. In addition, you may print to the public printer in the MBA Laptop Lounge located in PBL 203. Each student is allocated a print quota each semester. The quota is based on historic printer usage data and is set in place primarily to conserve resources.
