Workshop Format

The workshop will be limited to 60 participants. In addition to the invited participants, we will also invite about 15 other participants based on their interest and submissions. We are seeking to have a mix of people from industry and academia and are also looking for people that work on ubiquitous computing within different disciplines.

We expect each participant to write a short 2000-word description of his or her research topic, or a research proposal that would cover some aspect of the workshop area. These proposals will be used to organize participants into work groups and also to invite people to provide short talks on specific topics. We expect that many of these will be later developed into papers and we are currently in discussing potential interest in the results of the workshop with several journals.

We have organized the workshop so that you can fly in on Friday afternoon and leave on Sunday afternoon. The format and general program of the workshop will be interactive and focus on developing ideas and debating research issues and practical challenges. We plan to start on Friday evening with a cocktail event and run the meeting all day Saturday and Sunday morning. Saturday morning is allocated for short presentations and Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning for group work.

The Fall foliage will be in full color in Cleveland at that time and we believe that the seminar will offer a unique opportunity to meet old friends, make new friends and participate in an intellectual endeavor which is both fresh and exciting.
