The three-year EDM Program is demanding and rigorous, and requires a high level of
commitment from each participant. The curriculum comprises 54 credit hours organized into
interdependent areas of study. EDM is an executive-type program with classes offered at one 4-day and five 2-day residencies each semester.
Through the Program's courses, colloquia, small learning groups, tutorial sessions
and applied research, participants and faculty develop and implement a learning agenda. In this
spirit of co-inquiry, EDM participants are encouraged to develop as a learning community. The
EDM Program is designed to create a collaborative educational environment in which participants
and faculty interact as partners in the learning process. The curriculum incorporates two types
of courses: Integrative and Inquiry. The Integrative courses address substantive problems through
reading relevant literature and course discussion. They seek to integrate ideas across the social
sciences and to some degree the humanities to understand the focal problem or issue. The Inquiry
courses are dedicated to helping students formulate the questions they want to examine in their
individual research. These courses also give the students the methodological tools to conduct
research in their areas of interest and provide faculty support in the design and execution of
research projects.
