Current Students

Ryan Baxter
Ryan has just finished his second year as a PhD student.  Prior to entering the program, he worked for KPMG as a Sr. Associate in their Risk and Advisory Services practice for two years.    He received my bachelor and master degrees in Accounting and Information Systems at Brigham Young University.

His current research interests are about knowledge management, 3D technologies, and the role of information technology in multi-firm innovation.  He is also working on revising a paper about the impact of IS outsourcing that he presented at a round table discussion at AMCIS 2003 in Tampa, FL.

Ryan is currently work with Dick Boland, Kalle Lyytinen, and Youngjin Yoo on the Path Creation project, which studies the innovation processes around the work of Frank Gehry in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Industry.

Nick Berente
Nick Berente is a PhD student in the Information Systems Department of the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. His research interests include the strategic role of information systems within innovation processes. He is also interested in the nature of information processes in general and the relationship between information technology and work practices.

Uri Gal
Uri has just finished his first year as a Ph.D. student. Before coming to the USA Uri worked as a researcher in a social policy think-tank in Jerusalem. He received his Masters degree in Organizational Psychology at the London School of Economics and my Bachelor's degree in Sociology at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Sean Hansen
After a decade of professional work in management and technology consulting, Sean decided to pursue a Ph.D. in Information Systems, so that he could explore the ideas that interest him in greater depth. As a first year student in the IS program, Sean is currently enhancing his understanding of foundational concepts and fundamental research methods, while refining his longer term research interests. A native Clevelander, he has an A.B. in Psychology from Harvard University and an MBA from the Weatherhead School.

Danail Ivanov
Danail has just finished his second year as a Ph. D. student. He comes from Bulgaria, one of the ex-Communist Block countries, which is hopefully going to be a NATO and EU member in the very near future. He has visited many counties and lived for extended periods of time in different cultures.

Danail has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Political Science, and an MBA in Computer Information Systems.

Yisong Jiang
Yisong received his BS and MS from Shandong University and majored in Computer Science before starting the program in Fall 2003. His interest areas include ubiquitous and mobile computing, coordination, and IT & organizations. He is currently working on a project to study how the change in mobility of actors and artifacts might influence coordination and communication.

Yusun Jung
Yusun is a first year PhD student. She graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with Master of Science in Information Design and Technology. She also has a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and another Master of Art in Mass Communication, specialty in Organizational Communication and Mass Communication.

Her fundamental questions start from the relationship between new media, human, organization, and society through communication interface and context. She is interested in narrowing the distance between users and media or system, minimizing the distortion of communication, and maximizing the user participation via transparent interface. This topic includes issues of usability, HCI, interface design, narrative, and metaphor and so on. Currently, she is digging implementation of organization into virtual reality.

Jessica Carlo
Jessica has a Bachelor of Art degree in English Literature (Specialty in Medicine), from West China University of Medical Sciences. She then worked for four years as an Assistant Professor at the Training Center, also of West China University of Medical Sciences, teaching intensive English courses for medical doctors going to the U.S. or Canada as visiting scholars and Tibetan students majoring in Clinical Medicine. Many of her students went to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Additionally she taught Latin to Chinese students majoring in Western Medicine.  She enjoys working with people and is fortunate to be able to share ideas with her students.  She also did a limited amount of consulting and liaison work for two American companies and a Swedish Company. This brought her together with her husband and they currently reside in Ohio.
 
Jessica returned to school from China for a M.A. in English Literature at York University, Canada, and then got a M.S. in Management Information Systems from the University of Akron. Now she is pursuing a Ph.D in Management Information Systems at Case Western Reserve University.  
 
Jessica is interested in exploring how information technology affects the knowledge transfer and corporate learning.  She finds it amazing that IS, as an interdisciplinary field, traces its intellectual roots back to computer science, management science and organization science, and also reflects many trends in liberal arts.  Her current research interests include knowledge creation, knowledge sharing, and socio-technical design of information systems.  

Sean McGann
Professionally, having transitioned from the US Navy as an electrician and having a child at age 20, to the civilian world as a construction electrical contractor at age 23, to the world of building maintenance at age 25, to undergrad engineering school at age 26, to gradschool for an MBA at age 29, to actually beginning my business career with Andersen at age 30, to starting a dotcom company at age 35, to a visiting professorship  at age 37, back to school for an MIS PhD at age 38...people often say that Sean has taken a non-traditional path through life.

Pankaj Nagpal
Pankaj has just finished his first year in the PhD program. He is interested in business, technology and their organizational linkages. His earlier work has been in manufacturing and research/consulting firms. He has worked with manufacturing firms like United Technologies and IS Groups in Barnes & Noble, and Fidelity Investments. Pankaj completed an MS in Information Systems, from Boston University.

Zixing Shen

Nikhil Srinivasan
Nikhil has just completed his first year as a PhD student. His previous education includes a Masters degree's in Telecommunications and Network Management and International Relations from Syracuse University

David Tilson
David is a second year PhD student. He has a Bachelors degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Queen’s University of Belfast in Northern Ireland, a Masters in Telecom Engineering from the University of London, and an MBA from the University of Texas in Austin. He has thirteen years of work experience in consulting, engineering and project management roles in the telecom, high-tech and broadcasting industries. David received a Royal Television Society award for broadcast technology innovation. His research interests include IT strategy and business value, standardization and economics. He is currently studying the standardization process in the mobile computing and communications industry.

Lin Zhao
Lin has just completed her third year as a PhD student coming to us from Tianjin, China. Her research interest is the design and application business forecasting systems.
